St. Charles, MO, September 19, 2024 - A long-time board member and advocate of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County (BGCSTC), Mike Plackemeier, was inducted into Boys & Girls Club’s Missouri Area Council Hall of Fame on September 17, 2024, in St. Charles, Missouri.

The Boys & Girls Clubs Area Council Hall of Fame honors those rare individuals whose high achievements have made a mark in their local Club and have impacted the Missouri Area Council of Boys & Girls Clubs. The five inductees honored have shaped and inspired local Clubs in Missouri. Hall of Fame honorees have achieved the distinction of being true champions for children and have provided innumerable accomplishments and lasting impact.

Mike Plackemeier's contributions to the Boys & Girls Club movement span over 50 years, beginning as a Club member at 10 years old and extending through three decades of dedicated board service. Joining the BGCSTC Board of Directors in 1990, Mike was a driving force behind the establishment of the O'Fallon Unit. Despite challenges like the 1993 flood that threatened the project's success, Mike's determination and leadership were pivotal in opening the O'Fallon Club in 1994. For 30 years, this unit has been a vibrant hub for youth in the community, a testament to Mike's dedication. During his acceptance speech, Plackemeier stated “We can change the world if we help one kid at a time. The Club is a positive place for kids.”

Mike’s insights as a Club alum guided the board’s focus on creating high-quality spaces, programs, and staff for members. During his tenure, which lasted until 2020, he spearheaded the O’Fallon Unit Capital Campaign, supported the St. Charles Unit Capital Campaign, and continued to guide the Club’s mission through his involvement in various committees. Beyond BGCSTC, Mike's commitment to community service is evident in his previous work with the O'Fallon Rotary Club and his role on the Advisory Board for Segs4Vets. His legacy is marked by remarkable leadership, steadfast advocacy, and a passion for empowering young people.

“We are immensely proud to celebrate Mike’s well-deserved induction into the Boys & Girls Clubs Missouri Area Council Hall of Fame. Mike’s philanthropic spirit, strategic vision, and steadfast commitment to empowering young people make him a true champion for children. His induction into the Hall of Fame is a testament to his extraordinary contributions to the Club and the impact he has made on our community’s youth,” said Karen Englert, Chief Executive Officer of Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County.
