Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County (BGCSTC) will begin its annual Summer Blast Program on June 2, 2020, to provide a safe, fun, and educational place for children to go now that school is out of session. The Summer Blast Program will be held at both locations.
“Thanks to our partnerships area schools, families, and other social service agencies, and the hard work behind the scenes of our staff and board members, we are able to open our doors to serve those who need us most,” said Chief Executive Officer, Karen Englert. “Right now, we are only able to open three days per week for thirty members per location, with priority given to our youngest members, but we are working to expand to the traditional full-week schedule in July.”
Safety is a top concern for the Boys & Girls Club staff, who have been working diligently to create and implement proper health and safety protocols in alignment with CDC recommendations. Children will have their temperature checked before they enter the building and at least one other time throughout the day. There will be a nine to one ratio and members will stay in one classroom throughout the day, including lunch and snack times. Members will be allowed outside for playtime, games, and activities with social distancing measures in place.
Dedicated staff will clean and sanitize rooms and program supplies throughout the day and regular handwashing and hand sanitizing will occur for everyone. BGCSTC staff will also wear masks, though members are not required to. If parents would like their child to wear a mask, they will need to provide one.
“Our Staff has been doing a wonderful job providing virtual programming, online mentoring, and check-in phone calls for members since we’ve been closed, but I know everyone is looking forward to seeing them in person and getting back to what will be the new normal,” Englert said. “This is a learning process for all of us, and we ask that we be patient with each other to ensure a smooth re-opening for everyone. We’re excited to see our members again soon.”
The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Charles County Summer Blast Program will be from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at the St. Charles Unit and the O’Fallon Unit. The program will run through August 14, except for a one-week closure June 29-July 3, 2020. Fees are $75 per three-day week per member, which includes breakfast, lunch, and program supplies, and must be paid in advance to ensure proper staffing. An annual membership of only $25 per member is required. For more information, please visit: https://bgcstc.org/summer/.
